XR CIG: Faculty Development and Teaching and Learning with AR/VR

In this session, our presentations focused on faculty development strategies and how to support teaching and learning with augmented and virtual reality. Our guest speakers included Maya Georgieva, senior director of the Quantum Innovation Labs at The New School, and Lindsay O’Neill, professor of Instructional Design and Technology at CSU Fullerton.

Georgieva focused on the learning experience, encouraging the practice of including both pre- and post-experience activities in addition to the immersive experience itself. She also discussed learning design principles that support learners using immersive environments.

O’Neill talked about the importance of play in learning, and how there are opportunities to create playful experiences for faculty to explore and test new technologies.
