Cal State Ready

The Cal State Ready project is an effort to design a virtual high school counselor’s assistant that will provide friendly and accessible information to prospective students on how to prepare, apply, and pay for college within the CSU system.  It is meant to augment the work a high school counselor does and free their time up to focus on helping their students prepare for their college experience and the California workforce.

A cross-functional team of designers, developers, project managers and subject matter experts from the Chancellor’s Office, Fresno State, Cal State Long Beach, CSUN and Cal State San Bernardino are collaborating to build a custom Amazon Alexa skill so that high school counselors and prospective Cal State students can access information about Cal State and the admissions process using simple, natural language questions.

This project provides an opportunity for Cal State staff, students and faculty to experiment with AI chatbots, promoting access to programming skills that can be used to improve student success, and providing hands-on experience for students in this nascent technology.

Cal State Ready will be piloted in September 2019 at the CSU High School Counselor Conferences across the state.  If you’d like to stay informed about the project or join later phases, please let us know below.
